Gender Maternity and Paternity Staff Equality Forum is a place for colleagues to share, discuss and progress issues around Gender, Paternity and Maternity.

The Strategic Executive Sponsor for Gender, Maternity and Paternity is Alison Hinds (Director of Childrens Services).

The forum celebrates key dates relating to gender such as International Women’s Day and International Men’s Day and uses them to shine a light on notable issues that men and women face.

Since 2021 a Gender Movement Action Plan has been developed. This follows the concerns from colleagues after the tragic murder of Sarah Everard and Sabina Nessa. A special meeting was held, and discussions took place around the safety of colleagues which covered walking to car parks in the darkness, walking around Wolverhampton at night, behaviour of colleagues and awareness. The action plan has helped to tackle some of these key areas by investigating what can be done to promote safety, cohesion and education which has led to the introduction of safety alarms and a chaperone service.

Since 2024, the forum began developing and working on a new plan with the following objectives:

  • Grow the forum and membership
  • Raise more awareness of support for fathers
  • Develop bespoke informal sessions on GMP related issues
  • Revisit woman's health and safety through a new survey
  • Address men's mental health
