Issues with videos

Some of our videos that we have on our site are not captioned, or may rely on auto-generated captions and may not be completely accurate. Videos do not have an audio description or transcript.

• Some videos do not have captions (WCAG 1.2.2 Captions (Pre-recorded)).
• Some videos use automatically generated captions, which may be inaccurate (WCAG 1.2.2 Captions (Pre-recorded)).
• Some video controls do not have enough contrast (WCAG 2.1 AA success criterion 1.4.11 (non-text contrast)). This is an issue with the YouTube video player.

All new videos will have captions and/or audio description and/or transcript.

We will be investigating and testing the use of alternative accessible video players e.g. AblePlayer.

Issues with PDFs and other documents

We may at times be required to publish some documents provided by external bodies in the format they provide them and therefore cannot make them accessible.

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

PDFs and other documents

The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services.

Any new PDFs or Word documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.

Live video

We do not plan to add captions to live video streams because live video is exempt from meeting the accessibility regulations .

Preparation of this accessibility statement

This statement was originally prepared on March 12, 2024.

How we tested this website

This website was tested in February 2024. The tests were carried out by accessibility specialists in the City of Wolverhampton Council web team. The team tested the most used customer journeys through the website and a sample of the different types of page. The testing followed the WCAG 2.1 AA guidelines and considered the needs of users with sight impairment, physical disabilities, hearing impairment and cognitive disabilities. An additional assessment of the site occurred in mid-January 2024 courtesy of the Cabinet Office, this raised a number of significant issues which were addressed between mid-January and early March 2024.

We have made every effort to ensure this website is easily readable using 'plain English'.

In addition, we have ensured that the design of this website will not present an obstacle to usability and readability.

At present we do not offer any information on our site which is signed but should you need an interpreter to access council services you can request to use our interpreter service .

Accessing the website in different languages

The information on our website is in English. However, you will see an accessibility icon at the top of every page on our website that will assist you in translating text into a different language.

Userway

This website uses the Userway accessibility widget. This can be accessed via the yellow accessibility icon that appears at the top-right of every page. This tool has a variety of tools than can enhance the accessibility and usability of the website.

Userway enables essential accessibility options such as changing contrast, highlighting text, adjustment of font type, size and text spacing, dealing with animation, cursor adjustment, voice navigation and screen readers.

Browser Accessibility

We have aimed to make this site fully usable with any browser, including text-only and access technologies.

Cascading Style Sheets and Javascript are used, but only to enhance appearance and usability.
